35% Conversion Bonus between Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan
From June 20-26, 2019, Aeroplan is offering a 35% bonus for converting Marriott Bonvoy points to Aeroplan miles.
Typically, 30,000 Marriott Bonvoy points = 10,000 Aeroplan Miles.
For this promotion, this will result in 13,500 Aeroplan Miles. And you can earn even more Aeroplan Miles by taking advantage of the bonus offered by Marriott Bonvoy for every 60,000 points transferred (+ 5,000 Aeroplan Miles).
Thus, 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points = 33,750 Aeroplan Miles taking into account the 5,000 Aeroplan Miles bonus paid by Marriott Bonvoy and the 35% conversion promotion on Aeroplan’s side!

As this type of promotion comes back every 3 to 6 months, find out how you can directly/indirectly earn Marriott Bonvoy points… and Aeroplan Miles by destination.
Earn Marriott Bonvoy points directly
American Express offers two credit cards linked to the Marriott Bonvoy program:
- <a class=”thirstylink” title=“the Marriott BonvoyTM American ExpressMD Card, the Marriott BonvoyTM American ExpressMD Card
- Marriott Bonvoy™ Business American Express® Card
Each of these cards allows you to earn Marriott Bonvoy points directly through your spending and the welcome bonus they provide. And this bonus can get you several free nights at Marriott hotels!
Example of a Welcome Bonus converted to Aeroplan Miles
Consider the welcome bonus of 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points offered by each Marriott Bonvoy card:
If you recently signed up for this card and earned these points but don’t want to stay at Marriott hotels, you can take advantage of this conversion promotion!
So 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points = 16,667 miles + 35% = 22,500 Aeroplan miles!
However, we strongly recommend that you transfer in increments of 60,000 Marriott points as Marriott Bonvoy offers an additional 5,000 miles for every 60,000 points transferred.
Thus 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points = 25,000 miles + 35% = 33,750 Aeroplan miles

Earn Marriott Bonvoy points directly
American Express Membership Rewards points can also be transferred to Marriott Bonvoy points. The transfer rate is 1:1.2 or, easier to remember: 5:6.
For every 50,000 Membership Rewards points transferred, you earn 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.
There are 3 cards for individuals offering Membership Rewards points:
And 2 small business/self-employed cards(see this article on how to get them) offering privileged points:

Example: Cobalt Card > Marriott Bonvoy > Aeroplan
The American Express Cobalt Card earns “Membership Rewards Select” points.
Unlike “Membership Rewards points”, these points can ONLY be transferred to hotel partners such as Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors and not to airline programs.
We therefore recommend that you use these select Membership Rewards points first for transfers to Marriott Bonvoy and keep your Membership Rewards points earned on other cards for transfers to Aeroplan or British Airways Executive Club.
The American Express Cobalt card is the preferred card for travel hackers in Canada to earn Marriott Bonvoy points…. and ultimately aeroplan, avios, alaska miles…
In addition to its welcome bonus of 30,000 Select Membership Rewards points (divided into 2,500 points per month for 1 year as long as you put $500 on the card each month), its strength lies in its earning rate: 5 Membership Rewards points / dollar for purchases:
- grocery stores purchases
- convenience stores
- restaurants – bars
And don’t forget the gift cards purchased in grocery/convenience stores to benefit from the 5 points / dollar!
So if your ultimate goal is to earn Aeroplan, Avios, Alaska miles with your American Express Cobalt card, imagine the miles you can earn:
No card will offer you such a high rate of accumulation for airline miles!
And we don’t even take into account the transfer bonuses (on the Marriott side and on the airline program side) as mentioned above!
Under this 35% conversion promotion, you can therefore convert:
The American Express Cobaltᵐᶜ Card is definitely the best credit card on the Canadian market today!
Bottom Line
We always tell you that it is best to use your points and miles within the loyalty program in which they were issued to you.
However, some promotions like this one can be interesting, especially if you are short on miles to book the Aeroplan Reward of your dreams!
