Amazon Prime - What is the Amazon Prime event?
Amazon Prime Day is a generally bi-annual event organized by the online retailer Amazon over 48 hours at the beginning of summer in July and October. Promotional sales exclusively for members of the Amazon Prime program are offered over a short period. This makes it possible to benefit from substantial discounts on a wide range of products.
In addition to discounts on products, Amazon.ca also offers special deals on its services, such as Prime Video, Prime Music and Prime Reading. It’s a chance to try out these services!
The last Amazon Prime event took place from October 10 to 11, 2023.
Started in 2015, Prime Day has become one of the biggest online sales events, comparable toBlack Friday or Cyber Monday. Amazon tries to offer the best products at the lowest price, with products from all the major brands available online to satisfy its members.
Amazon Prime - How much does Amazon Prime cost?
Amazon Prime costs CAD 9.99 per month or CAD 99 per year (CAD 8.25 per month). A 30-day free trial is available to Quebec residents via this link. If you’ve already subscribed to Prime in the past, it’s possible that another offer will be displayed for you, i.e. a 7-day trial for CAD 0.99.
Students who are Quebec residents benefit from more advantageous pricing, with a half-price subscription at 4.99 CAD/month for 7 months instead of a trial.
You need to be a member to benefit from Prime Day offers. Prime Video members must take out a subscription to benefit from this service.
Amazon Prime - How can I get a free trial for Amazon Prime?
Amazon Prime is a premium subscription to free priority delivery on millions of items, with no minimum purchase required. The service has expanded in recent years and now offers a range of services, depending on the package chosen:
- Unlimited Video with Amazon Prime Video (movies, TV series, TV shows, sports competitions, etc.),
- Music with Amazon Prime Music (millions of ad-free songs),
- Exclusive video games and gaming content with Amazon Prime Gaming (Twitch),
- books with Amazon Reading (available offline on your e-reader) and accessible on your mobile devices,
- Free, unlimited photo storage with Amazon Drive.
Subscriptions are either monthly or annual, and delivery is usually within two days.
If you haven’t been a member in the last 12 months, you’ll have 7 days at CAD 0.99. To do this, go to Amazon Prime and select Start your subscription, then follow the site’s instructions. You can cancel at any time.

Amazon Prime - Shop with points on Amazon Prime
Amazon is a partner of two financial institutions: American Express and TD. You can redeem American Express Membership Rewards points (1,000 Membership Rewards points = $7) or TD Rewards points (1,000 points = $3.33) at Amazon.ca.
Link your American Express or TD Rewards card to your Amazon.ca Shop with Points program. At checkout, select your American Express or TD credit card as your payment method and choose the number of points to apply to your order.
However, it’s worth noting that it’s more attractive to use your points on your Amazon purchase once it’s been charged to your American Express credit card. In fact, as with any purchase, you can use your points as an account credit at the rate of 1,000 Membership Rewards points = $10. Like my purchase at IGA:

Amazon Prime - Aeroplan eStore
Finally, visit the Aeroplan portal: you can earn up to 10 points per dollar on Amazon products by shopping online from the Aeroplan eStore.
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, Aeroplan has announced a special offer to earn 10x points per dollar spent at select eligible retailers from July 8 to July 17, 2024. You can therefore earn on Prime Day :
- up to 10 Aeroplan Points per dollar spent on Amazon (applicable to certain categories only)
- 2 Aeroplan points per dollar spent on Amazon with Aeroplan status
- Up to 1.25 Aeroplan Base Points per dollar on purchases charged to a TD Aeroplan credit card and 40% bonus points if you are enrolled in this offer.
So, to earn the most points with this offer, it’s best to pay for your purchases with a TD Aeroplan credit card:
If you don’t have a specific purchase to make on Prime Day, the Amazon gift card is the best option for pampering yourself later. The advantage is that there are no fees or expiry dates to use them. They can be used to purchase eligible products and services on amazon.ca or other Amazon sites in other countries, and you can earn a points discount of up to 20% if you purchase it in points through the Aeroplan eStore from July 8 to July 17, 2024 (registration required).
Also, if you’re an Aeroplan Elite Member, you’ll earn two extra points for every dollar you spend in the Aeroplan eStore.
Another option is to buy your Amazon gift cards in grocery stores (IGA, Sobeys, Métro, Super C) with one of these two cards: the American Express Cobalt® Card and the Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card. You’ll earn 5 points for every dollar spent on Amazon gift cards, or the equivalent of 5%. And if you use your Scotiabank Gold American Express® Card at IGA/Sobeys grocery stores, you’ll even earn 6 points per dollar!

Amazon Prime - Airmilesshops.ca
Finally, if you collect AIR MILES miles, the Airmileshops.ca portal offers 1 mile per $20 at the regular rate, with a promotion giving 50 bonus miles for those who sign up for Amazon Music Unlimited.
What’s more, you’ll get bonus miles if you use the Airmileshops.ca portal for your Amazon purchases:
