We regularly talk about airline surcharges. Formerly known as “fuel surcharges”, they are now known as “operator-imposed surcharges” or “carrier surcharges”. In any case, the airline imposes a surcharge on the award tickets.
Some programs (rare) like United do not charge them to the end customer, for others like Aeroplan it depends on the company.
