To the point Here is my review of the Four Points by Sheraton Lévis Convention Center, a category 3 hotel in Quebec City in the Marriott Bonvoy program.

The Marriott Bonvoy offer in Quebec City is quite interesting with 5 properties:

Recently, both Jean-Maximilien and I visited, on our own, some of their hotels. As for me, I opted for the Four Points by Sheraton Lévis Convention Center.

Booking at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel

Four Points is a member brand of the former SPG group and was integrated into the Marriott Bonvoy offering following Marriott’s buyout in 2018.

This is a category 3 hotel, available from just 15,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

Location

One of the pros of this hotel is that it is located in a rather quiet area. It’s perfect for late mornings or quiet evenings as it’s far from major roads or urban excitement. Moreover, for those who wish, it is close to the ferry linking Quebec City and Lévis.

Around the hotel

The Four Points by Sheraton Lévis Convention Centre is within walking distance of the Lévis Farmers’ Market and Laiterie Charlevoix, if you like cheeses, or a few restaurants offering take-out and delivery.

If you feel like it, you can even shop a few blocks away, within the shopping area.

So the hotel is really well located.

Reception

The lobby is rather dark due to the lack of windows and the style of decoration chosen.

Employees are protected by plexiglass (COVID-19 context). As we had already done the check-in through the mobile app, the procedure is relatively simple and quick. No identification was requested. We only had to provide a credit card for additional expenses.

At the lobby level, there are only 2 chairs as the area from which we access the restaurant (opposite the reception desk) was closed due to ongoing renovations.

Update: as we came back to it later, here are some more pictures after renovations.

Our room

The hotel has a wide variety of rooms:

Type Details
Traditional Room, 2 queen size beds
Bedroom 1 queen size bed, Sofa bed
1 bedroom suite 1 king size bed, Sofa bed, view – Deluxe
Junior Suite Junior Suite with 1 bedroom, 1 king size bed, Sofa bed
Executive Suite 1 bedroom Executive Suite, 1 king size bed, Sofa bed, Balcony
Penthouse City view
Presidential Suite Loft on two levels with 2 bedrooms, city view, Balcony

Our room was an Executive Suite. We had room 515 located on the 5th floor. This suite upgrade was made possible by our Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status.

The suite opens onto a large entrance hall with a big closet and a full-length mirror.

The latter is particularly useful for applying make-up when the bathroom is busy. On the left is the access to the bathroom and a little further on, the access to the huge lounge. At the end of this hall is a kitchenette area.

The modest kitchenette includes:

  • Mini fridge
  • Microwave (hidden behind the cabinets above the coffee maker)
  • Coffee maker
  • Kitchen counter
  • Sink

However, there is no cutlery, no utensils, no glass or ceramic cup. Only disposable plastic cups and paper cups are provided.

The floor coating in the entrance hall as well as the lounge and the bedroom gives the suite a clean and simple style. The only carpet we find is under the bed and only extends about a foot beyond it. This approach helps reduce odour and bacteria retention.

The airy and spacious living room is furnished with a sofa bed, side tables, a flat screen TV, a drawer cabinet, a large dining table with 4 chairs and a captain’s chair. The style is modern and uncluttered; however, there is no decoration. For example, there are no knick-knacks or frames on the walls.

I personally prefer to work at a desk rather than at a dinner table. In the Executive Suite, there is no work desk. In this case a more family-friendly approach was chosen (a dinner table is possibly more polyvalent).

As with most suites, the bedroom is separated from the living room by a closing door. Thus, if one of the two partners wishes to enjoy the living room while the other prefers to rest, this is perfectly possible while respecting each other’s privacy.

Our room had a comfortable king bed with a relatively firm mattress (which I prefer). It was framed by two small bedside shelves. The bedside shelves were equipped with recent electrical outlets allowing, among other things, to charge electronic devices only with a USB cable.

A large flat screen TV is on the wall opposite the bed. Unfortunately, it is not a smart TV, which is rather surprising considering the relatively modern look of the room. By the way, the TV in the living room is not a smart TV either.

The terrace

A special feature of the Executive Suites is that our room had a balcony, which we particularly appreciated.

Only the hotel’s Executive Suites and Presidential Suite have balconies. The Executive Suites are located on the corners of the hotel, so the balconies are corner balconies. Unfortunately there were no outdoor chairs on the balcony. The balcony can be accessed through a patio door from the bedroom.

Both the bedroom and the living room are relatively bright. Of course, we are outside the city centre, in a relatively recent development. Our room was overlooking a condo complex.

The bathroom

The bathroom has a standard toilet, a sink, a mirror, a large bath and a separate shower.

The Four Points by Sheraton Lévis Convention Centre subscribes to the ecological approach regarding the containers of beauty products (shampoo, conditioner, liquid soap for the body) and that reusable formats are installed in the shower rather than small single-use containers.

Reusable formats are locked in the shower (several hotels reported that guests were stealing the larger containers). That being said, the products selected by the Four Points had a rather masculine scent (Old Spice style) that may not be suitable for everyone.

There is also an ironing board and an iron. As for the hair dryer, it should be noted that it performed below expectations.

The suite has a freshly renovated look, however the decoration is totally absent and gives an impression of lack of finish, and especially, a lack of warmth.

The hotel services

Remember that we visited this hotel during the COVID period. As a result, many services were not offered. For example the fitness room was closed as well as the restaurant (undergoing renovations). There was no option for eating in the hotel, nor vending machines.

Breakfast

The restaurant was closed for renovations, so no lunch options were available.

Parking

The hotel has its own underground parking lot. A large parking lot is located in front of the hotel. This is a shared parking space with the Centre de congrès et d’expositions de Lévis, which is adjacent to the hotel, as well as an underground parking lot.

The pool

The hotel has a very small heated outdoor pool. It is located on the ground floor on the east side of the hotel. It is a fenced area surrounded by cedars.

In fact, it is more like a “big bath” because it is not possible to swim lengths. The pool is divided into 2 large whirlpools. There are also a few deckchairs around the pool. Towels are available at the reception. At the time of our visit, the pool was not used much.

The gym

Due to COVID, the gym was closed. So I couldn’t get in.

Meetings

The hotel also has two rooms dedicated to events, so you can host work sessions, a congress or even events such as a wedding.

Check-out

The check-out process is also very simple with Bonvoy via the application. Just confirm you’re checking-out… and it’s done. We also had the option of getting a copy of the invoice by email.

Our general impression of the hotel

It was a pleasant and really quiet stay. We especially enjoyed lounging in bed with the balcony patio door wide open, while we enjoyed our coffee.
