Here's my review of the Delta Hotel by Marriott Burlington, where we stayed with our two young children on a long weekend in Burlington.
We took advantage of a long weekend in Burlington to stay at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Burlington with our two young children. Because we love the area, but it was still early in the camping season, this hotel seemed ideal in terms of location, comfort and service.
Delta Hotels by Marriott Burlington - Location
Burlington is a university town in northwestern Vermont, USA. Strategically located, you’ll enjoy magnificent Lake Champlain, numerous outdoor activities and downtown Burlington, with its pedestrian street and cultural activities.

As a Marriott chain hotel, this Delta underwent a facelift a few years ago and now boasts a modern, user-friendly layout.
The hotel offers several types of accommodation (rooms and suites) spread over 2 floors, meeting the diverse needs of its guests.
Accessibility for people with reduced mobility has been taken into account in the design of the common areas, enabling people with reduced mobility to move around the hotel with ease. This is very practical for families using baby carriages or wheeled coolers.
The hotel also features an indoor pool, perfect for keeping the kids busy on rainy days. Its well-equipped gym also kept us active during our stay.
For business travelers, the hotel offers flexible meeting rooms and event spaces. These spaces are equipped with the technology needed for effective presentations and they offer a professional environment.
In line with the values of the people of the “Green Mountain State”, this establishment is committed to eco-responsible practices aimed at controlling its carbon footprint. A green program has been put in place, so that the hotel can compost restaurant/banquet food scraps, recycle waste from their rooms/offices, etc. The hotel discloses its carbon and water footprints on its website.

Delta Hotels by Marriott Burlington - Room & Services
Vermonters are rightly renowned for their warmth. Naturally generous, they always have a little something to say (especially to our children, who loved the cookies on the welcome tray) or a word of advice if you’re short of ideas for activities.
Although we had booked a suite, they kindly brought us a booster seat for our youngest child, and 2 extra chairs so we could eat in our room.
Although sufficient for our “camping-hotel” mode, plan ahead in order to be able to get by with a microwave and toaster. So, although you can ask the kitchen to lend you some crockery, remember to bring along a few microwave-safe dishes, as well as everything you need to clean the dishes.
Delta Hotels by Marriott Burlington - Restaurants
While our days were full, we preferred to eat home-cooked meals in our room with the kids.
However, you’ll find Duke’s Public House restaurant-bar on site, where the atmosphere and smells were more than enviable. The restaurant offers meals made with fresh, local produce, inspired by traditional Vermont dishes. Weather permitting, you can eat outside or enjoy one of their microbrewery beers.
Family activities in the Burlington area
There’s something for everyone in the Burlington area!
Although you’ll need a car to get around, you can easily leave yours in a parking lot near the waterfront to explore this pleasant town.
Don’t forget to bring your bike and make the most of the 22 km Burlington Bike Path along Lake Champlain. Don’t forget your picnic to use when you stop at the parks along the way.
With the proximity of Lake Champlain, and its magnificent panoramic views, many green spaces have been created to enjoy the waterfront. You’ll also find a number of beaches, including Texaco Beach and North Beach, which links up with the campsite of the same name.
In need of ideas, here is a non-exhaustive list of our favorites:
- Shelburne Museum is a must for first-time visitors to the region. This immense museum space (39 buildings on 45 acres) features an impressive collection of artworks, buildings and historical objects.
- Muddy Waters is a small, unpretentious café, often full of students. It offers beverages and meals made from local produce. Stop here before heading down Church Street.
- Church Street is a lively pedestrian street in the heart of Burlington, packed with stores, restaurants and street artists.
- City Hall Park is a lively place on weekends, whether it’s the market or one of Burlington’s many festivals.
- Waterfront Park (center) and Oakledge Park (south) are located on the shores of Lake Champlain, offering magnificent views of the water and surrounding mountains. You can stroll along the promenade (walking, cycling, etc.) or have a picnic while the kids play in the playgrounds.
- Magic Hat Brewing Company is the Ben & Jerry’s of craft beer lovers. You can take a guided tour to learn more about the brewing process and taste different varieties of beer. Unfortunately, this venue is not accessible to under-21s.
- ECHO Leahy Center is an interactive museum dedicated to the discovery of aquatic life on Lake Champlain, with aquariums and educational activities for the whole family.
- Mount Philo State Park is located 26 km south of Burlington. It offers easy hiking trails and panoramic views of Lake Champlain and the mountains.

If time permits, I recommend a visit to Montpellier, Vermont’s capital, known as “the nation’s smallest capital”. On the way, be sure to stop off at the Factory Tour – Ben & Jerry’s, where you’ll learn a few of the secrets behind the making of this icy treat, and taste a few samples!

- Discover the trails of Hubbard Park
