Until September 23, 2024, you can earn 100% bonus Hilton Honors points when purchasing points.
You can purchase up to 240,000 Hilton Honors points and earn 240,000 bonus points in a single transaction as part of this promotion. The cost will be 2,400 USD, or 0.05 US cent per point.
A minimum of 5,000 points must be purchased to benefit, and sales tax is added to the transaction.
How to earn Hilton Honors points
For Canadians, Hilton Honors points are hard to come by. In fact, only the American Express Membership Rewards program allows you to transfer points to the Hilton Honors program, with a transfer rate of 1:1.
For example, 30,000 Membership Rewards points can be transferred into 30,000 Hilton Honors points.
Then there are three solutions:
- Stay at Hilton Group hotels;
- Apply for an American Hilton Honors credit card or ;
- Buy points.
We do not recommend buying points during regular periods, as it is more advantageous during promotional periods, as is currently the case.
Points purchase promotions come up regularly: take advantage of them to buy points whenever you can (sometimes, the maximum allowed per calendar year is removed).
The transaction will be carried out in US dollars. We recommend that you use a card that does not charge foreign currency conversion fees to avoid paying a 2.5% conversion fee:
Note that points are purchased on Points.com, a site external to Hilton Honors. Therefore, this transaction does not count as a “travel” expense.
Ordinary, buying Hilton Honors points costs 0.01 USD / point (0.014 CAD) : the savings represented by this bonus are therefore substantial by obtaining points at 0.005 USD ( 0.0068 CAD)
Is buying Hilton Honors points worth it?
The answer to this question is yes and no:
- If you have no travel plans, don’t buy points.
- If you have a well-defined travel project with Hilton hotels in mind, yes, it’s worthwhile buying Hilton Honors points!
Here’s an example of where it’s worth buying points. A hotel close to a very popular music festival, Untold in Romania.
For 5 nights, this hotel costs over 2,000 euros, or around 2,200 USD.
Now, buying 60,000 Hilton Honors points (and getting 60,000 bonus points) for 600 USD, it’s possible to book those five nights in the same hotel (4 nights + 1 night free when booking with points).
Bottom Line
Buying Hilton Honorspoints can be interesting for some, whether for a specific travel purpose and/or to top up a points balance for a free night’s stay.
However, if you are not in one of these situations, we advise you against buying points. It will be more beneficial to turn :
- an US credit card like Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card
- to credit cards from other programs such as Marriott Bonvoy
