Starting today, select Aeroplan Elite Members can offer an Aeroplan Status Pass to a friend for a travel reservation.
What is an Aeroplan Status Pass?
Members with Aeroplan 50K Status and above are eligible to earn status passes as a Select Benefit.
An Aeroplan Status Pass allows Elite members to share some of their Aeroplan benefits with their friends and family members:
- The person will be able to use the status pass without travelling with the member who gave it to them
- The status pass is extended up to 9 people on the same reservation
Here are the benefits available to Aeroplan Status Pass travellers:

Which Aeroplan Members are eligible for status passes?
To earn status passes, you must have Aeroplan 50K Elite Status or above:

| Super Elite | 4 passes |
It is a Select Benefit that you choose each year. Super Elite members also have 2 status passes as a core benefit each year.
For 2021, on an exceptional basis, Aeroplan will award additional status passes:
- 1 status pass for 50K and 75K Aeroplan Members
- 2 status passes for Aeroplan Super Elite Members
These status passes will appear in your Aeroplan account in the next few days.
How do I use an Aeroplan Status Pass?
Then, enter the booking number and the last name of the recipient of the status pass. Note that you will be able to see the status passes you have already assigned here.
The status pass is a very flexible element:
- it can be applied to an Aeroplan Flight Reward or a revenue ticket
- if the reservation is cancelled, the status pass returns to your account
- you can revoke an unused status pass up to 6 hours before travel
The status pass is considered used as soon as one Air Canada flight on the reservation has been completed.
Bottom Line
The Aeroplan program continues to refine itself following its launch in late 2020. The status pass is an interesting feature: Air Canada is the only airline in the world to offer this type of benefit to its elite members.
This allows other members to experience the benefits of being an Elite member of the airline, and perhaps get a taste for it.
But more importantly, it allows family members of an Elite 50K or more member (Air Canada frequent flyers) to benefit from the status for some flights. For example, children or spouses of frequent travellers.
The most interesting aspect is the one related to the baggage: up to 3 bags of 32 kg each, and for 9 people travelling on the same booking! This is an exciting concept, considering that Air Canada already offers a similar benefit for Aeroplan credit cardholders (1 bag of 23 kg for up to 9 people travelling on the same booking).
