WestJet is intensifying its partnership with Flying Blue, Air France-KLM’s loyalty program.

After setting mutual benefits in 2017, such as earning and redeem miles in the respective programs, travelling on WestJet will allow you to earn Experience Points (XP) towards Flying Blue status.

The Flying Blue loyalty program was completely overhauled in April 2018:

Thus, to get Gold status, an Ivory member must obtain 100 XP to become Silver and then 180 XP to become Gold.

Once a status is reached, the XP counter is reset to 0, and the member has one year to get the necessary Experience Points.

It is, therefore, challenging to access the higher statuses for casual travellers.

XP Experience Points are calculated based on:

• the distance: domestic/medium-haul/long-haul (subdivided into 3 categories)
• the cabin

Now it’s possible to earn XP travelling with WestJet to about 60 destinations.

A WestJet flight from Montreal to Toronto will bring:

• 2 XP in economy class
• 6 XP in business class

A WestJet flight from Ottawa to Calgary will also bring:

• 2 XP in economy class
• 6 XP in business class

Frequent travellers between Toronto and Montreal on the WestJet will be able to earn XP. But to earn more, it’s better to travel to destinations in the United States.

Here, for example, is a flight from Edmonton to Honolulu:

• 10 XP in economy class
• 24 XP in business class

It is also an opportunity to remind you that it is possible to use Flying Blue miles to travel on Skyteam airlines (Air France, KLM, Delta Airlines, to name but a few) but also WestJet!

The airline has high ambitions, particularly with the launch of its B787 aircraft, which will enable it to serve international destinations.
